GameDay Returns to Australian Ownership Under DELE Sports
A new era for Australia’s longest-running sport technology platform.
MELBOURNE, 1st October 2026 – GameDay, one of sport technology’s most established and trusted global platforms, today announces the completion of its acquisition by DELE Sports Proprietary Limited from PlayMetrics effective 31 July 2026. GameDay was previously part of the Stack Sports portfolio, prior to its combination with PlayMetrics in 2025. Alongside the transaction, Daniel Smith has been appointed Chief Executive Officer.
The acquisition returns GameDay to Australian ownership, headquartered in Melbourne, where the business was founded more than 25 years ago. Smith joined GameDay eight months ago as General Manager and now steps up to lead the company.
GameDay provides membership and competition management, ecommerce, websites and custom mobile applications for the organisations that run sport. Its technology supports partners across Oceania, Europe and Asia, among them but not limited to; Australian Rules Football, Football Australia, Baseball Australia, Rugby Football League United Kingdom, Basketball New Zealand, Athletics New Zealand, Hong Kong Rugby Union & Hockey Ireland.
Each year, the GameDay platform delivers:
- 1.1 million participants registered
- 18,000 competitions managed
- 900,000 fixtures generated
- 8 million competition website visitors
- 17,000 active administrators
GameDay was acquired by Stack Sports on 12 June 2017, and over nearly a decade grew into the global sport technology platform it is today. When PlayMetrics conducted a rigorous review of the broader Stack Sports business, GameDay was identified as a strong, independent business best suited to a new owner. That owner is DELE Sports.
“Having started my sports tech journey at SportingPulse 15 years ago, I deeply believe in GameDay’s mission to elevate sports operations worldwide. I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to Michael Doernberg and PlayMetrics for their support in getting us to this milestone. This acquisition opens an incredible next chapter, unlocking significant growth and innovation for our global community. I couldn’t be more excited to lead GameDay into the future.”
– Daniel Smith, CEO, GameDay
“PlayMetrics has been refining its portfolio of products since the consolidation with Stack Sports in 2025. This has meant focusing the business both on what we deliver and where we serve customers. PlayMetrics operates exclusively in North America and while GameDay is a fantastic business, we felt it was best suited to be owned and operated within its home country of Australia.”
– Michael Doernberg, CEO, PlayMetrics
