We would like to congratulate GameDay director of strategy (EMEA) Greg Sturge, who recently graduated as part of the first-ever cohort of the Sport and Recreation Alliance’s Management and Leadership Programme.

Launched in autumn 2021, the programme helps participants build managerial competence and confidence so that they can go on to fulfil their potential and aspirations to become future senior leaders within the sport and recreation sector.

Nineteen individuals enrolled on the course, with a celebration held in London earlier this month to mark the conclusion of studies.

Participants undertook a wide range of modules on all elements of management and leadership, from developing personal goals and strengths to enhancing team collaboration.

The GameDay Wrap: April 2022

Greg Sturge said: “It has been fantastic to take part in the Sport & Recreation Alliance’s Management and Leadership Programme over the last few months.

“Highlights have included everything from the importance and implementation of inclusive leadership, through to the development of presentation and Communication skills in both a virtual and physical world.

“Beyond that, the opportunities to network and share ideas with the other course participants has been invaluable, each leaders in their own field and now part of a network for our future careers.

“It will be exciting to implement our new skills and techniques across the next stage of our professional development. I’d like to thank the SRA for running this great initiative, the course organisers and speakers for all their hard work, and GameDay for continuously supporting and investing in staff development.”

UK Sport CEO Sally Munday, Paralympian Helene Raynsford and former national TV presenter Keith Daniell were among the leading experts who joined sessions to provide their insight on a range of topics.

The programme will return in 2022, with participants able to register their interest here.

Lisa Wainwright MBE, Sport and Recreation Alliance CEO, added: “I’d like to offer my huge congratulations to all the individuals who have completed the programme and really look forward to seeing how this experience helps them to progress in the future.

“The success of the programme very much relied on the commitment and dedication of each participant, as well as their sponsoring organisation and it’s been wonderful to see how much they’ve all challenged themselves to achieve their own goals.

“Our sector can only benefit from developing its people, being a people first industry and we look forward to planning another exciting programme for our second cohort later in the year.”
