GameDay helping to power Rugby League World Cup

By Published On: October 14, 2022Categories: Media Release
GameDay, in partnership with the Rugby Football League, are proud to support the Rugby League World Cup, who will be using GameDay for their competition and team sheet management.
The Rugby League World Cup is finally here after being postponed last year due to the global Covid-19 pandemic.
Having worked tirelessly to reschedule the event for 2022, this month we finally get to see the best that rugby league has to offer as the tournament takes place in various venues across England.
Also, for the first time ever, the men’s, women’s, and wheelchair tournaments will be hosted simultaneously in an action-packed month of rugby league.
Given the scale of the tournament, the RFL will be providing some support to the RLWC21, part of which includes using their competition management platform, which is provided by GameDay.
The RLWC21 will be managing squads, team selections, team sheet management, fixturing, match official allocation and results entry through the GameDay platform, which the RFL have been using since 2016.
GameDay accommodates a large number of sports via our competition management platform, which includes the ability to customise and populate team sheets with our online team selection.
The RLWC21 will be using custom-designed team sheets through the GameDay platform, which you may see appear throughout the tournament.
Daniel Bignell, GameDay senior project manager, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the relationship we have with the Rugby Football League, and it’s a great privilege to be able to help them and support the Rugby League World Cup 2021 with our platforms.
“I’m looking forward to a fantastic tournament and the legacy it leaves for the sport.”

About the Rugby League World Cup

The Rugby League World Cup is one of the longest-running World Cup tournaments in world sport.
The Rugby League World Cup was first raised by the Fédération Française de Rugby à XIII (FFRXIII) in the 1930s. However, it took until 1953 till the rest of the then International Rugby League Board (IRLB) to accept the proposal.
The pinnacle of international rugby league, it is an event like no other. And in 2022, more teams than ever will compete for the Rugby League World Cup, with four groups of four nations competing in stadiums across England.
Furthermore, the men’s, women’s wheelchair and PDRL competitions will take place parallel to one another, making it the most inclusive World Cup to date.
